We all know that we shouldn’t
be driving and texting thanks to Oprah, but do you know why? The average text takes your eyes off
the road for five seconds. If your
driving on the express way that means that you will have gone over 100 yards
before you look back up! However,
we live in a world where being connected 24/7 is not just the norm, but it is
expected. It’s not practical to pull over every time you send or receive a
text. So how can you keep connected if you want to stay safe? Here are ways
that you can use your phone and keep your
eyes on the road.
OnStar
The OnStar system is a GM service that has emergency
response, anti-theft security, navigation, and vehicle diagnostics capabilities
in addition to hands-free calling and voice to text services. The option comes on all new GM models,
and there is now an after-market “For My Vehicle” version too!
Voice Apps
There is a plethora of voice apps for both Android and
iPhone operating systems such as Siri, ShoutOUT, Virtual assistant, etc. After a little bit of set up you can
easily master the use of one of these to stay safe on the road while using your
phone hands free.
Bluetooth car kits
Do a Google search for hands free car kits, and you will no
doubt be able to find a reasonably priced set that will allow you to keep your
eyes on the road while using your phone!
Just don’t do it
Simply don’t text while you drive. Turn your phone off or put it on silent so you aren’t
tempted to use it while you drive.
Remember it’s better to get where you are going safe, than crash for a
silly emoticon or worse get killed in an accident!
