Tips for Driving on the Beach

ELIZABETH CITY NC., - Each and every day we hear stories of someone having to dig themselves out of the sand or either have their vehicle towed out. We have compiled a list of tips to help insure that you do not get stuck in the sand.

When pulling into access ramp the first thing that you will want to do is decrease the air pressure in your tire to between 20-25 pounds. Depending on how soft the sand is you may need to go lower. When you lower the air pressure it gives the tire a wider foot print which causes your vehicle to ride higher on the sand instead of digging into it. Since you are riding on top of the sand it will also allow for less strain on your engine, as opposed to plowing right through it. Be sure you re-inflate your tires when returning to the roadway. Driving on roadways with underinflated tires is unsafe and very dangerous.

The maximum speed limit on all beaches is 25 mph, so drive at a slow pace. If you attempt to take off too fast you will lose traction and bury your vehicle up to the axle.

Try to drive in the ruts made by other vehicles unless they are deep enough to let you bottom out.

If for any reason you lose traction, do not spin your wheels to try and dig out of the sand. The best thing to do is to decrease your tire pressure, shift into low range and back out of the rut you came in.

The Outer Banks has its own version of quick sand and it is called pea gravel beds which are small stones and usually orange in color. Make sure that you pay attention to the tides as areas that are easily accessible may become quickly impassable at time of high tide. Be cautious not to block other vehicles and park above the high tide line if possible.

Below is a list of items that you may need just in case you happen to get stuck in the sand:

Tire Pressure Guage
Tow Strap or Rope
Shovel
Bumper Jack
Board Sufficient to support base of jack
Flashlight
First Aid Kit

Chevrolet Backs New Vehicle Lineup with Guarantee

Elizabeth City, NC – Chevrolet and Performance Chevrolet are building on the momentum of record breaking global sales and the total transformation of its product lineup by making consumers a bold new guarantee – if you don’t love it, return it.

Starting today participating U.S. retailers will offer the Chevy Confidence program which includes:
  • “Love it or Return it” – a vehicle return program on every new 2012 or 2013 model year vehicle purchase. Customers can return vehicles bought during the program, with less than 4,000 miles driven and no damage, 30 to 60 days from the purchase date.  It’s simple – if you don’t love it, return it.
  • “Total Confidence Pricing” – all 2012 model year Chevrolets will be offered at special preferred prices in addition to all current vehicle-specific incentives.  No mystery about it – the price you see is the price you pay.
  • For full program details and limitations go to chevyconfidence.com.
“We have transformed the Chevrolet lineup, so there is no better time than now to reach out to new customers with the love it or return it guarantee and very attractive, bottom line pricing,” said Chris Perry, Chevrolet global vice president of marketing. “We think customers who have been driving competitive makes or even older Chevrolets will be very pleased by today’s Chevrolet designs, easy-to-use technologies, comprehensive safety and the quality built into all of our cars, trucks and crossovers.”

With a solid new lineup of vehicles to sell, Chevrolet’s U.S. dealers, including Performance Chevrolet, have worked to elevate the retail experience by undergoing a transformation of their own. The results are new showrooms that better showcase the brand, and more highly trained staffs delivering a greater level of customer service.

“Research has shown customers respond positively to the confidence companies demonstrate with programs like this and appreciate the peace of mind that comes with knowing they have the option of being able to return their vehicle,” said Perry.

“The Chevrolet Confidence program will help attract new and old customers to our showroom by adding another element of consumer convenience,” said Trey Colbert, Internet Director of Perry Auto Group. “Elizabeth City area drivers continue to discover the new Chevy lineup, and we know that once they get behind the wheel of one of our Chevy vehicles that they are more likely to drive one home.”

Chevrolet sold 4.76 million vehicles around the world in 2011, setting a global sales record, and is on track to build on that success in 2012 with its best-ever first quarter global sales of 1.18 million vehicles. The U.S. was the brand’s leading market and was the leader in both passenger car and performance car sales in 2011. During the past two calendar years, Chevrolet has grown faster than other high-volume global brands, bringing its global market share to 6.28 percent.

Edmunds.com and Parents magazine have also recognized the Cruze Eco and Sonic as two of the Best Family Cars for 2012. Both the Cruze Eco and Sonic deliver fuel economy of 40 mpg or more on the highway and offer consumers the comfort, safety and advanced technology they expect at a value.

Chevrolet vehicles are consistently recognized for delivering the quality, features and fuel economy that consumers want. For example, the Malibu was recently recognized as the highest-performing midsize car in the 2012 J.D. Power and Associates Initial Quality StudySM.  The Silverado HD, Avalanche and Tahoe were also among the top three in their respective segments and the Chevrolet brand turned in its best-ever performance in the study with an overall improvement of 8 percent.

2014 Impala Focuses on Crash Avoidance From All Angles

Elizabeth City, NC – The all-new 2014 Chevrolet Impala is the latest addition to Chevrolet’s passenger car lineup and provides first-ever safety technologies for the global brand.
Unveiled earlier this year at the New York Auto Show, the Impala leads the full-size segment with 10 standard air bags and boasts numerous active safety systems. While passive safety systems, such as air bags and seat belts, protect occupants in the event of a crash, active safety systems are designed to prevent a crash in the first place through the use of sounds, visual warnings and automated actions.
Here are the active safety features on the 2014 Impala designed to help drivers avoid crashes:
  • Full-speed-range adaptive cruise control – Radar technology senses ahead and adjusts the Impala’s speed from a complete stop to full acceleration. It is the first application in a Chevrolet.
  • Collision mitigation braking – Another Chevy first: Radar technology detects a possible crash threat and alerts the driver. If the driver does not appear to react quickly enough or doesn’t react at all, this feature intervenes to apply the brakes in an effort to avoid the crash.
  • Forward collision alert – Camera technology detects a possible crash threat and alerts the driver visually and audibly, giving him or her time to stop and/or change course. If a crash occurs, the Impala is equipped with OnStar, and a specially trained advisor is connected to the vehicle. If the driver requests help or can’t answer, emergency responders are sent to the precise GPS location.
  • Lane departure warning – A camera-based lane-detection system identifies traffic lane markings and provides audible alerts in cases of unintended lane changes.
  • Side blind zone alert – Using radar sensors on both sides of the vehicle, the system “looks” for other vehicles in the blind zone areas of the Impala and indicates their presence with LED-lit symbols in the outside mirrors.
  • · Rear cross traffic alert – Based on the radar sensors of side blind zone alert, it warns the driver of vehicles in traffic when backing out of a parking spot – including angled parking. Visual and audible alerts are triggered if moving vehicles are detected.
  • Rear vision camera with dynamic guidelines – With a display in the center stack infotainment system, the camera provides a view of objects directly behind the Impala, while the dynamic guidelines provide a reference that helps make parking and other maneuvers easier.
  • Rear park assist – Uses sensors in the rear bumper to detect objects directly behind the vehicle and provides an alert for the driver.
  • Brake pre-fill feature – Another Chevy first: Radar technology detects a possible crash threat and the system increases the hydraulic pressure in the brake lines, anticipating a driver’s hard braking. This quickens the response time and shortens stopping distances (included with 20-inch wheels on uplevel models).
  • Hill hold/start assist – On hills, applies the brakes for about 1.5 seconds to prevent the car from rolling when the driver moves his or her foot from the brake to the accelerator pedal.
The all-new Impala will arrive in Chevrolet showrooms in early 2013. For more information, please visit www.chevrolet.com/culture.

Chevrolet Equinox Offers Advantages of Universal Design

Elizabeth City, NC – Getting into the Chevrolet Equinox is so easy, Elizabeth City owners may never notice. The small crossover’s narrow rocker panels require minimal reach to step over, and its seat height requires minimal bending. Equinox’s ease of entry is just one example of Chevrolet’s use of universal design – an approach that makes products of all kinds work for as many people as possible.
Consumers experience universal design every day, from sidewalk ramps to lever-style door handles. For most people, universal design adds convenience, but for Elizabeth City area people with limited range of motion it can be a difference maker. A rear vision camera, programmable liftgate and easy-to-use touch screen controls are examples of Equinox’s ease-of-use features.
Ease of use is increasingly important to car design as automakers adapt to changing consumer demographics. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the 65-and-older population is projected to grow to more than 71 million by 2030, and will account for 20 percent of the nation’s citizenry. That means more car buyers will be dealing with age-related issues that affect range of motion, eyesight, hearing, reflexes and cognition – issues that General Motors has studied in depth and has already begun to address in many of its vehicles such as the Equinox.
“While the use of universal design, in the making of the Chevrolet Equinox provides many benefits forPerformance Chevrolet’s older customers, it really makes life easier for all users, regardless of age,” said Jimmie Ritter, Certified Sales Professional of Performance Chevrolet.
For automakers, the rising number of older car buyers is impossible to ignore, because Baby Boomers, the generation now reaching retirement age, buy the most new vehicles. According to a recent study from J.D. Power and AARP, people ages 50 and older now buy more than six of every 10 new vehicles sold – up 39 percent since 2001.
“Boomers want vehicles that help them maintain their vitality by adapting to their needs, rather than the other way around,” said Matt Thornhill, founder and president of the Boomer Project, a marketing research firm in Richmond, Va. “If a car screams that it was designed ‘for old people,’ Boomers will hate it and so will younger buyers. Boomers want vehicle designs that reflect their youthful vitality and aspirations, even if they are dealing with age-related issues.”
One of the reasons why operating a vehicle becomes more difficult with age is diminished range of motion. Equinox’s blind spot mirrors and wraparound rear side glass can be useful to drivers, regardless of their age, who may have difficulty looking over their shoulder when making a lane change. In addition, the crossover’s rear-vision camera, standard on 2013 Equinox LT and LTZ models, helps all drivers identify objects behind the vehicle when backing up.
Equinox’s rear programmable power liftgate, standard on LTZ and available on 2LT, also helps customers of any age who have limited range of motion, but also is convenient for anyone whose hands are full.
Another example of Equinox’s universal design advantages is its segment-leading multi-flex rear seat that allows parents to move the rear seat closer for easier and safer access to their children. The additional leg room afforded by the multi-flex rear seat allows up to five people to sit comfortably in the vehicle.
Also in easy reach are Equinox’s center stack radio controls, with redundant controls on the steering wheel that help drivers keep their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.
Additionally, Equinox’s MyLink infotainment system, standard on 2013 LT and LTZ models, has a seven-inch color touch screen display with easy-to-understand icons that allows users to integrate their Bluetooth®-paired smartphone with their vehicle so they can stow their phone and safely use the hands-free voice control system to listen to music files and place calls to stored contacts. Users also can access their mobile phone book on the display.

Chevrolet Corvette: Celebrating 60 Years as an Icon

file
Elizabeth City, NC – On June 30, 1953, the first of a new kind of Chevrolet – indeed, a new kind of American car – rolled off an assembly line in Flint, Mich.
The car had only two seats. There were no roll-up windows, or exterior door handles, for that matter. Its body wasn’t stamped from steel but, rather, molded from reinforced fiberglass.
While the postwar Baby Boom was in full swing, this was definitely not a family car. This was a very personal vehicle, one that promised an Elizabeth City driver and passenger all of the thrills of the open road.
Skeptics gave the car little chance of lasting beyond an initial run of a few dozen units. However, 60 years later the Chevrolet Corvette survives, and thrives as an American automotive and cultural icon.
“The Chevrolet Corvette has touched the lives of countless individuals in Elizabeth City,” said Trey Colbert, Internet Director of Performance Chevrolet. “We’re excited to join Chevrolet in celebrating 60 years of the Corvette – an American automotive icon.”
Barely five months before Tony Kleiber, a Flint plant body assembler, drove that first Chevrolet Corvette off the line and into automotive history, the icon in the making was little more than a designer’s dream.
Corvette was first created under the code-name XP-122 to provide Americans with a glimpse of a European-style sports car designed for this side of the Atlantic. It was one of several concept cars unveiled in January, 1953 at the GM Motorama show in the ballroom of the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City.
With a world war not far behind them, people wanting a glimpse of the automotive future lined up around the block to view the new concept vehicles. At the Waldorf Astoria – and at every other Motorama stop across the country – Chevrolet’s sporty little roadster ignited many Americans’ imaginations.
In fact, the Corvette was so popular Chevrolet executives decided to thrust the two-seat roadster into production, albeit on a very limited basis.
Initial plans called for about 150 Corvettes, primarily to help draw potential customers into Chevrolet dealerships scattered across the U.S.’s then-48 states. Overwhelming demand doubled the first-year production to 300 units. The following year, the Corvette moved to a GM assembly facility in St. Louis, Mo., where 3,640 Corvettes were built for the 1954 model year.
Those first Corvettes sparked Americans’ 60 year love affair with the Corvette. Since 1953, more than 1.5 million Corvettes have been built. Those cars have become synonymous with   American performance – from cruising down Americana on Route 66 to taking the checkered flag at the world’s most prestigious road race, the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
During the coming months, Chevrolet will kick some tires, open the hood, and climb behind the wheel to highlight 60 years of Corvette design, performance and technology milestones. We hope you enjoy the ride.

The Chevrolet Spark Is Remixed for City Living

file
Elizabeth City, NC – The 2013 Chevrolet Spark, a mini-car currently sold in 100 markets worldwide, will debut at Performance Chevrolet later this year with new features specifically targeted to appeal to the urban millennial market.
“Chevrolet is listening to what young drivers want in a car,” said Trey Colbert, Internet Director of Perry Auto Group. “We are already seeing interest in the Spark from customers who are looking for an urban car that is easy to drive, park and own.”
To tackle the challenges of urban driving environments, several Spark features are tailored to Elizabeth City drivers, including:
  • Giving the Spark the ability to conquer steep inclines and declines with Hill Start Assist and equipping the Spark with a sixth sense with Panic Brake Assist – both standard on Spark and new to the mini-car segment in North America.
    • Hill Start Assist aids drivers in cities known for hilly terrain – such as San Francisco – by holding the vehicle in place while the driver switches from the brake pedal to the gas.
    • Panic Brake Assist detects situations where emergency breaking is needed and automatically engages maximum braking force.
  • Squeezing Spark into the tightest of parking spaces with a length of only 144 inches and 63 inches wide, which is 37 inches shorter and 8 inches narrower than the Chevy Cruze.
  • Connecting Spark owners to their friends, music, videos and photos with a radio that features a seven-inch diagonal color touch screen equipped with the Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system, which provides users with access to Pandora and Stitcher, Bluetooth and navigation. MyLink also makes it possible to connect a smartphone or other USB device to play movies, display pictures and download contacts for hands-free calling, allowing for a full in-vehicle media experience.
  • Packing extra horsepower under the hood with modifications to the engine displacement and enhancements to the ride and handling, giving the Spark more power and better handling at higher speeds.
  • Hooking up the Spark with 15-inch wheels, making it the only vehicle in the segment to come standard with alloy wheels and increasing its performance and style street cred.
  • Giving the Spark a facelift with a deeper grille and restyled fog lamps for a sportier, more aggressive style.
The Spark will arrive at Performance Chevrolet later this year. For more information, please visitwww.chevrolet.com/spark.

2013 Chevrolet Volt Boosts EV Range to 38 Miles

Elizabeth City, NC – The all-electric vehicle range of the 2013 Chevrolet Volt will be 38 miles on a single charge, providing Elizabeth City drivers with a three-mile EV range increase from the 2012 model. The miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe) will increase from 94 miles to 98 miles and the total range, including extended range operation, will be 380 miles.
Based on real-world experience by Volt owners since the vehicle launched in late 2010, engineers made minor changes to the material composition of the battery cell chemistry, resulting in improved performance and durability. Manganese spinel chemistry remains the foundation for the Volt’s battery system, but the amount of each material has been slightly modified to provide better life performance.
“Chevrolet has made the 2013 Volt even better by extending the EV range by three miles over the 2012 model,” said Trey Colbert of Perry Auto Group “We are excited that this attention to detail will allow our customers to experience more pure EV range, which offers piece of mind that this is the only car that they need to own.”
In addition, the total storage capacity of the Volt battery has been increased from 16 kWh of energy to 16.5 kWh, and engineers have expanded the state-of-charge window to use 10.8 kWh of the total battery energy – up from 10.3 kWh used in the 2012 model.  The battery system maintains a buffer to ensure battery life, but that buffer has been reduced.
The improved EV range capability will result in slight increases to the Volt’s charge times. A full recharge using a 120V could take 10.5 hours and 4.25 hours using a 240V charging unit.
Cells with improved chemistry have accumulated 150,000 test miles to date. The tests have revealed less battery degradation, the ability to withstand temperatures as low as -30 degrees Celsius and less impact by energy throughput.
For the first 38 miles, the Volt can drive gas and tailpipe-emissions free using af full charge of electricity stored in its 16.5-kWh lithium-ion battery. When the Volt’s battery runs low, a gas-powered engine/generator seamlessly operates to extend the driving range another 344 miles on a full tank. Volt owners have travelled more than 65 million miles since the vehicle launched late 2010. Roughly two-thirds of those miles were powered by grid electricity.

That helps deliver an EPA-estimated 25 mpg in city driving and 37 mpg on the highway.
All-new turbocharged powertrain
Malibu’s first-ever turbocharged powertrain is offered on LT and LTZ. The Ecotec 2.0L turbo is SAE-certified at 259 horsepower (193 kW) and 260 lb.-ft. of torque (353 Nm). Its peak torque is sustained from 1,700 to 5,500 rpm – a broad range that provides an immediate feeling of power in all driving conditions and helps produce 0-60 performance in 6.3 seconds.
The 2013 Malibu will be sold in nearly 100 countries on six continents and will serve as a flagship Chevrolet midsize in many parts of the world. The Malibu is built in multiple locations including the United States, China and Korea. In North America, Malibu is built at the Fairfax, Kan. and Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plants.

OnStar: Most Kids Unprepared for Auto Emergencies

Elizabeth City, NC – When it comes to preparing Elizabeth City children for emergencies, high-profile situations like fires and medical emergencies around the home are top of mind for many parents. However, for emergencies in the car, young children often do not know what to do.
A recent study by OnStar and Kelton Research found that less than half of parents are sure that their children would know at least one measure to take in the event of a car crash (46 percent) or a medical emergency in or around a vehicle (47 percent). Comparatively, 72 percent of parents expect their kids would know what to do if there was a fire in the home.
“Parents know how important it is to teach kids about safety in the home, but think how much time kids spend in cars. A few simple precautions can make a big difference,” said Kate Carr, President and CEO of Safe Kids Worldwide.
In addition to a number of educational programs that Safe Kids Coalitions offer around the country, OnStar and Safe Kids are providing parents some tips to help prepare children for an emergency that might take place in or around the vehicle.
  • Car Seats: Safe Kids recommends keeping kids in rear-facing car seats as long as possible, as it is the safest way for children to travel. Children more than two years old can sit in forward-facing car seats or in rear-facing convertible seats as long as the child hasn’t reached the maximum car seat weight or height. Many forward-facing seats can help protect kids from 50 to 85 pounds. Booster seats protect kids up to 100 pounds. Always make sure the car seat is properly secured according to manufacturers’ instructions.
  • Airbags: Remember that children who are up against or very close to any airbag when it inflates can be seriously injured or killed. Never put a rear-facing child restraint in the right front seat.  It is also better to put a forward-facing child restraint in the rear seat as well.  Check the owner’s manual to see where the airbags are located in your vehicle.
  • Safety Belts: For children who outgrow their booster seats, proper safety belt technique is critical. Show your child how to properly put on and take off a safety belt on their own. Make sure they know that the shoulder belt should always be worn in front of their chest, centered on the shoulder, and the lap belt should be low on the hips, contacting the thighs, not the stomach. Take Safe Kids’ safety belt fit test, to be sure your child is ready to advance to the safety belt.
  • Educate about OnStar: If your vehicle has OnStar, you should make sure your young passengers are educated about its capabilities. In the event of a moderate-to-severe crash, OnStar will automatically connect to a trained advisor who will ask if everyone’s OK and can send emergency help to the location of the vehicle. It’s important that children know they can trust this OnStar voice and that they should answer any questions the advisor may ask and follow directions given.
It’s also crucial for kids to understand how to use OnStar in a non-crash-related emergency. Inform them that the red emergency button on the rearview mirror is just like dialing 9-1-1. If the driver is in trouble and cannot press the button for some reason, kids should know that this is a fast and easy way to call for help. However, you should tell them to never play with the buttons.
  • Sitting Properly: You can teach your child how to sit properly in a seat to help avoid injury:
    • Sit with shoulders against the back of the seat.
    • Position the head rest to protect the head.
    • Keep your head away from the door panel or window as that could cause injury.
    • Keep your legs in front of you, not to the side.
    • Stow all belongings so they do not injure passengers in a crash.
  • Car Keys: Never leave children alone in a vehicle with the car keys. Children could operate the power windows or other vehicle controls that can be dangerous.  Children can be seriously injured or killed if caught in the path of a closing window.  Do not leave the keys in a vehicle with children and never leave a child alone in a vehicle.  Lock all doors after leaving an empty vehicle.
GM Foundation has supported Safe Kids for the past 16 years, beginning with the Safe Kids Buckle Up program.
Safe Kids conducts programs for kids and families around the country and in Elizabeth City that teach safety messages, including how to use OnStar, common vehicle myths, tips and more. A Cub Scout program is geared for kids ages 7-10; the Safest Generation program is tailored for kids ages 11-12 and the Countdown2Drive programs reaches older kids and young teens. Chevrolet Malibu Eco Achieves Double Safety Honors

file
Elizabeth City, NC – The 2013 Chevrolet Malibu Eco, available at Performance Chevrolet, is the first and only all-new 2013 midsize car available to Elizabeth City drivers to receive double honors for safety including a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and a 2012 Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Both are the highest ratings possible.
The IIHS tests vehicles to determine how well they protect occupants in front and side crash tests, in rollovers via a roof strength test, and simulated rear impacts to evaluate seat and head restraints for protection against neck injuries. The Malibu Eco achieved a “good” score in all four types of tests performed and has standard electronic stability control, which the IIHS requires for Top Safety Pick designation.
In achieving the 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score, the Malibu Eco was tested under NHTSA’s revised New Car Assessment Program.  The overall score is based on frontal and side crash tests in addition to evaluation for rollover resistance. Under the rating system, performances in three test segments are combined mathematically into an “Overall Vehicle Score.”
“With the Malibu Eco, Chevrolet has earned seven 2012 TOP SAFETY PICK awards,” said IIHS President Adrian Lund.  “The IIHS and NHTSA results demonstrate GM’s commitment to state-of-the-art crash protection.”
Under this methodology, the Chevy Malibu Eco achieved an Overall Vehicle Score of five stars – the highest rating possible – even though some individual ratings, such as rollover, resulted in four stars.
The all-new 2013 Malibu will be sold in nearly 100 markets on six continents. It was designed and engineered to achieve top safety ratings and to meet pedestrian protection standards where such requirements exist. Last November, General Motors announced that the Malibu also earned a top five-star rating by the European New Car Assessment Program, known as Euro NCAP.
GM designs its new products to perform well in the metrics IIHS and NHTSA use to communicate crash worthiness to customers. There are 11 GM 2012 models with a 5-Star Overall Vehicle NCAP score and the Malibu Eco is among the first 2013 GM models to receive this rating. There are now 15 GM vehicles that have an IIHS 2012 Top Safety Pick designation.
“Our customers are interested in the Malibu Eco not only for its fuel economy, but also for its safety features,” saidJimmie Ritter of Performance Chevrolet. “This designation by NHTSA and IIHS confirms that the Malibu Eco delivers top safety performance.”
The all-new Malibu is designed and engineered to help Elizabeth City drivers avoid crashes, while protecting occupants if a crash occurs. Standard safety features include:
  • A body structure made up of 65 percent high strength and ultra-high strength steels
  • Driver and front passenger dual-stage frontal air bags, seat-mounted side air bags and knee air bags and head curtain side air bags with rollover protection that cover front and outboard rear-seating rows
  • Rollover sensors which can activate the head curtain side air bags if sensors determine an imminent rollover. In a rollover, the air bags stay inflated longer to provide increased occupant protection
  • StabiliTrak electronic stability control helps the driver maintain control by comparing the path being steered by the driver with the actual response and, when necessary, applying the brakes or adjusting the throttle or a combination of both
  • Four-channel disc brakes with ABS, full-function traction control and panic brake assist that activates when an emergency braking maneuver is detected. The system automatically develops additional brake pressure to more quickly engage ABS
  • Front safety belt pretensioners to reduce forward movement and load-limiting retractors to help manage forces during a collision
  • OnStar, which features the Automatic Crash Response System that uses GPS and cellular phone technology to automatically call for help in a crash that deploys the air bags.
The Malibu Eco is the sixth Chevy model within the 2012 model year to achieve a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score for safety. The others include the Camaro Coupe, Sonic, Cruze, Volt and Traverse. The 2012 Malibu is also is a Top Safety Pick.
The Malibu Eco with fuel-saving eAssist technology is Chevrolet’s most fuel-efficient midsize car ever. It is on sale now in the United States with a base price including destination of $25,995, less than competitor full hybrid vehicles. Chevrolet is scheduled to roll out an all-new fuel-efficient 2.5L Ecotec engine on the full Malibu lineup this summer. A new turbo model will be available this fall.
