ELIZABETH CITY, NC. – Fiat Chrysler has recently stated that it was the original inventor of the minivan segment, going back several decades. Fiat Chrysler is attempting to create the first electric minivan, and this new model will most likely be a plug-in hybrid. Analysts have mentioned that producing an electric minivan would make a lot of sense considering the typical driving habits of the minivan owners.
The main obstacle is ensuring that a hybrid minivan model stays affordable. Unlike its main competitors, Chrysler does not yet have a hybrid car in its lineup. This development would be a key undertaking by the Auburn Hills, Michigan-based automaker. CEO of Chrysler, Sergio Marchionne, has recently confirmed that Fiat Chrysler is attempting to create the first electric minivan, stating that a “massive” program is already underway. However, no further details were released.
Chrysler fans, we do have some more good news to pass along! We have heard that the company’s five-year plan does happen to include an electric based version of an unnamed full-size crossover in 2017! Could this be the infamous electric minivan? We will just have to wait and see! In the year 2025, fuel economy standards are going to become much more severe. This means that today’s automakers need to start producing an electrified fleet that will improve their overall fuel economy. Perhaps this plug-in hybrid minivan could be the start of something new for Fiat Chrysler.
