Trick or Treating Safety Tips for a Frightening Good Time

Trick or Treating Safety Tips for a Frightening Good Time

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – Halloween is here! We’ve been preparing all month for this holiday by carving our pumpkins and putting last minute details on our costumes. It’s time for the little ghouls and ghosts to come out this Saturday and get all the candy they can dream of, but it’s important we remind our kids to be safe too. Halloween can be dangerous, but we these simple Trick or Treating Safety Tips for a Frightening Good Time you and your little ones will have a great Halloween.

Halloween Safety Tips
  1. Adult supervision is a must. Any kid under the age of 12 should have a parent with them no matter where they are trick or treating. If your children are over the age of 12, make sure they are going out with a group and stay with that group.
  2. Stay in a safe neighborhood that’s well lit. It’s ideal to trick or treat in an area you’re familiar with so you don’t get lost. A safe bet is to look at porch lights; if they’re not lit, chances are they’re not handing out candy.
  3. Always use sidewalks and crosswalks. It’s harder for drivers to see at night, so make sure your kids stick to recommended walking areas. Teach them to make eye contact with drivers before crossing so they are aware of each other.
  4. Light up with glow sticks and reflective tape. The best glow sticks to use are the necklaces so little ones can’t lose them as easily. This makes your child easier to see by you and drivers. Reflective tape can easily be put on candy buckets and bags too.
  5. Inspect any goodies your child receives. The candy should be factory wrapped with no tampering whatsoever. It’s suggested to avoid homemade treats as well.
  6. Never enter a house. Houses should only be entered if you are with your child and you know the person. Same goes with cars, no child should ever get near or in a car with a stranger.
  7. Costumes should fit comfortably. This includes masks, shoes, and any other accessories. Big costumes can become a tripping hazard and big masks can be hard for children to see in.

Stick with these Trick or Treating Safety Tips for a Frightening Good Time this Halloween. Check out our fun Halloween event at Perry Auto Group too. Trunk or Treat is happening Friday October 30th from 5-8 p.m. Bring the family out for a good time at our Chrysler and Chevrolet dealership.

Chevrolet and LG Created the New Bolt EV

Chevrolet and LG Created the New Bolt EV

ELIZABETH CITY N.C. – Thanks to a great partnership, Chevrolet and LG created the new Bolt EV, and General Motors has made a big leap in leading electric vehicle technology.

The Bolt EV is the very first long-range electric car that’s at an affordable price for car buyers. Chevrolet and LG created the new Bolt EV with their combined skills to produce new infotainment, battery systems, component development, electric motor designs, and battery control.

Here’s what you’re going to get in the Chevrolet Bolt EV:
  • Electric Drive Motor (built from GM design) Power Invertor Module (converts DC power to AC for the drive unit)
  • On Board Charger
  • Electric Climate Control System Compressor
  • Battery Cells and Pack
  • High Power Distribution Module (controls the flow of high voltage to a number of components)
  • Battery Heater
  • Accessory Power Module (maintains low-voltage power to accessories)
  • Power Line Communication Module (regulates communication between vehicle and a DC charging station)
  • Instrument Cluster
  • Infotainment System

A lot of time and brainstorming went into the design, driving range, and performance capabilities. Engineers came to a final decision that they wanted to produce an affordable electric vehicle, but wanted it to be long-range as well. The Bolt EV can go 200-plus miles on one single charge, keeping Chevrolet one of the leading automakers of electric cars.

LG is excited to partner with GM because they are now a big player in next-generation vehicle technologies. To support the production of the Bolt, they invested over $250 million for an engineering and manufacturing factory in Korea where LG produces Bolt technology components.

Production of the Chevrolet Bolt EV will begin in late 2016 for a release in 2017. Until then, if you're in the market for a new Chevy car or new Chevy truck you can stop by our Chevrolet dealer near the US Coast Guard Station.

Six Must-Try Restaurants in the Outer Banks

Six Must-Try Restaurants in the Outer Banks

ELIZABETH CITY, NC - The Outer Banks area is one of the most popular vacation spots in the entire country. Lucky for most of us at Perry Auto Group, we get to live here all year round! One of the best parts of our permanent stay here is that we get to to sample all of the enticing restaurants located throughout the Outer Banks! From fantastic seafood to classic North Carolina-style BBQ, we've definitely had that chance to sample the best! Take a look at these six must-try restaurants in the Outer Banks!

Six Must-Try Restaurants in the Outer Banks
This family owned restaurant has been in the commercial fishing business since 1989 offering some of the FRESHEST seafood in the Outer Banks! The seafood is caught by their private fishing fleet and both locals AND tourists flock to this seafood Mecca. Usually whichever fish they catch that week is featured on the menu, but definitely try the steamed NC Wild Caught Shrimp, it's heavenly!

Six Must-Try Restaurants in the Outer Banks
Another great seafood spot in Hattaras, and they also have a second location in Buxton! Just like Harbor House, this spot specializes in fresh from the boat seafood (the thing was, we couldn't choose between the two so we put both on the list! #YOLO). The crab-cakes are fantastic, and so is the fresh shrimp as well. Most patrons take their seafood straight from the market and make it at home, which is definitely what we would suggest!

Six Must-Try Restaurants in the Outer Banks
We are HUGE Duck Donuts fans here at Perry Auto Group! These creative donut masterpieces are one-of-a-kind, and that's why we love 'em! Check out some of our favorites; Maple Icing with Bacon, Chocolate Icing with Shredded Coconut, and Strawberry Icing with Rainbow Sprinkles! You'll fall in love with the entire atmosphere and the smiling faces that always greet you with fresh, hot deliciousness!

Six Must-Try Restaurants in the Outer Banks
This is the beach-side burger and sandwich spot where locals are welcomed and tourists are tolerated! Art's Place serves breakfast and lunch, and we love stopping there for their (seasonal) soft shell crab sandwich, or their fantastic wings fried to a perfect crisp and doused in buffalo sauce! Breakfast is great as well, and a popular choice is the French Toast.

Six Must-Try Restaurants in the Outer Banks
Three words: BEST BISCUITS EVER! Trust us, you'll be craving these biscuits all week long, especially the Chicken Biscuit Breakfast Sandwich! This could quickly become your go-to breakfast spot, but don't forget to stop in for lunch as well. Try the shrimp and grits, you will not be disappointed!

Six Must-Try Restaurants in the Outer Banks
This is, without a doubt, the BEST Eastern Carolina barbecue in the Outer Banks! The famous chopped pork BBQ in the mouthwatering vinegar sauce could make you wonder, "Where have you been all my life?". This perfect BBQ joint is a takeout only spot, however there are picnic tables in the front if the drive home is too long!

How hungry are you right now? We're halfway out the door to grab some donuts AND some barbecue.... It's fine to have both right? Right! These six must-try restaurants in the Outer Banks are our personal favorites, but what are yours? Which spots do we HAVE to try? Best Haunted Places in the Outer Banks

Best Haunted Places in the Outer Banks

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – Halloween is just around the corner and the usual traditions are pumpkin carving, trick-or-treating, and haunted houses. We have something better for you though!

There’s a lot of history in North Carolina, and with history comes stories – we’re talking about ghost stories! This October go explore the real haunted attractions. Here’s a list of the best haunted places in the Outer Banks:

1.     Teach’s Hole – Named after Edward Teach, or as most of you know him, Blackbeard the Pirate. This is a small cove on Ocracoke Island and the exact location Blackbeard’s execution took place. This mischievous pirate was beheaded and the rest of his body was thrown overboard. There have been reports of seeing a headless body swimming in the cove and it searching on the beach for its head since that dark day in 1718.

2.     Cape Hatteras Lighthouse – In 1812 Theodos Burr was lost in a shipwreck here. His soul is still wandering the shores late at night close to the lighthouse.

3.     Roanoke Island Inn – It's haunted by a pervious owner of the inn, Roscoe Jones. He was the postmaster for many years in Manteo and died in the house from depression. Now people see a figure of a man in a postal uniform. Other occurrences include hearing footsteps, vases breaking, blinds moving, and a radio powering on.

4.     Graveyard of the Atlantic – There have been thousands of shipwrecks in the Diamond Sholes area off Cape Hatteras from severe weather and strong currents. An unknown amount of human lives have been lost to these waters and people say that they see ghost ships and can here the sounds of drowning screams even to this day.

5.     Flaming Ship of Ocracoke – Seen just past the coast of Ocracoke is a ghostly, flaming ship that sails every first night of the new moon. In the 1700s a sailing vessel brought refugees from the Rhine Valley to the New World. While the ship was anchored off shore the crew robbed and killed the immigrants and then pulled the anchor and abandoned ship. No matter what speed and direction the wind is blowing though, the ghost ship always sails northeast.

Instead of doing the usual Halloween festivities visit the best haunted places in the Outer Banks! Even if you don’t see anything while you’re there, you got to visit some really cool landmarks.

Remember that fall is also the best time to complete a maintenance routine on your vehicle before the weather gets cooler. If there’s any type of auto service you need help with stop by our used car dealer near Corolla, NC. We’ll take care of anything from your tires to a major repair.
